Lahore: Pakistan's top-ranked cricketer and former team captain Misbah-ul-Haq could become the new coach of the Pak team. According to a local newspaper, the 45-year-old Misbah has been introduced as the head coach, while former New Zealand coach Mike Hayson is also involved in the race for the post, according to a report published in another leading newspaper. In fact, the Pakistan Cricket Board had recently decided not to pursue the contract of head coach Mickey Arthur. In the World Cup, which ended in England and Wales, Pakistan's team had crashed out of the group level, with speculations that the entire coaching staff, including the main coach, would not be extended and so on. The PCB decided not to pursue the contract of Arthur as well as any of the coaching staff. The coaching staff includes bowling coach Azhar Mahmood, batting coach Grant Flower and trainer Grant Ludden. Misbah has captained Pakistan in 75 Tests and 162 ODIs. He led the team after spot-fixing in 2010 and made a number of breakthroughs. Hayson had announced on Twitter on Thursday that the Indian Premier League (IPL) team would resign as head coach of Kings XI Punjab. Hayson was also the coach of the New Zealand team.
