Modi govt orders 100 crores corona vaccine, nearly 35 crores have been vaccinated

New Delhi: More than six months have passed since corona vaccination began in the country. Meanwhile, Minister of State for Health Bharti Praveen Pawar while replying to a question in the Upper House on Wednesday said that the government has so far ordered 100 crores corona vaccines. Just on July 16, the government has ordered 660 million doses of Covishield and Covaxin.

Bharti Praveen Pawar said that the Central Government had placed the first order on 10 January 2021, which included 1.1 crores of Covishield and 55 lakh doses of Covaxin. After this, the government ordered 4.50 crore doses of Covishield and 45 lakh doses of Covaxin on February 2, 10, and 14. Then on March 12 and May 5, 12 and 16 crore doses were ordered. After this, on July 16, 37.5 crore doses of Covishield and 28.5 crore doses of Covaxin were ordered. In this way, the government in total has ordered 100 crore corona vaccines so far to Covishield and Covaxin.

In response to another question in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Health, Bharti Praveen Pawar said that according to the Cowin portal, about 34.4 crore people have been given at least one dose of corona till July 25. At the same time, in this period, about 65.5% of people of the age of 18 years and above have also been given the second dose of corona vaccine.
