'Modi govt's Agneepath scheme unconstitutional and illegal..', seeks supreme court to quash

New Delhi: There has been an uproar over the Agneepath scheme recently brought by the Modi government at the Centre for restoration to the Indian Army. In the past few days, there was a fierce movement on the streets. In Bihar, internet has been shut down in view of protests in several districts. Meanwhile, a petition has been filed in the Supreme Court against the Centre's Agneepath scheme. It alleges that the government has repealed the centuries-old selection process for the armed forces, contrary to constitutional provisions and without parliamentary approval.

Advocate Manohar Lal Sharma, in his plea, has said that it has been termed as "illegal" and "unconstitutional" and sought a direction to the Supreme Court to quash the June 14 press note issued by the Defence Ministry.

Let us know that under this scheme, both boys and girls will be given the opportunity to recruit in all the three services. The age for application of Agniveer should be from 17 years 6 months to 21 years. However, a two-year concession has been given for this year. Military officials have said that this will enable the youth to get a good career as soon as they pass 10th or 12th. They will have better pay, training and the path to the future.
