Monsoon updates: Heavy rain in Uttarakhand, 7 dead, state on alert

In Uttarakhand seven people have been reported killed in rain-related incidents in the state capital of Dehradun. Schools will remain close down as a precaution. Downpour over the past two days has reasoned rivers to swell, and wash away bridges in several places.

IMD (Indian Meteorological Department) warned about a heavy rain which will remain in place across the state over the next three days.

As Zee news reported of the seven people who have been killed, four died when a building collapsed in Dehradun's Seema Dwar while three others were washed away in Dalanwala, Sahaspur and Balliwala.

On a related note some off the highways in the state have been blocked by landslides. On the other hand National Highway-94, which connects Chamba with Rishikesh, has been blocked by landslides near Fakot and Bhinnu. Efforts are in progress to clear the blockages and re-open the roads.

Heavy downpour attacked southern Himachal Pradesh and most parts of Uttarakhand, causing a huge run-off of rain water into streams and rivers.

IMD issued the alert for heavy rain over Chamoli, Pauri and Rudraprayag districts on Wednesday. Reports inform that Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has cancelled the leaves and holidays of all officers and issued the order to stay at their respective posts in a bid to shave off response time to the extent possible.
