Multiple casualties are feared following a blast outside Kabul's military airport

Kabul: An explosion that occurred on Sunday near a military airfield's entrance in the Afghan capital left several people dead and others injured, according to an official.

According to Abdul Nafy Takor, a spokesman for the interior ministry, the cause of the explosion at the gate of the building next to Kabul's international airport was not immediately known.

The blast has resulted in the deaths of and injuries to several of our countrymen, Takor said, adding that investigators were looking into the incident.

Since retaking control in August 2021, the Taliban authorities assert that security has improved; however, there have been numerous bombings and other attacks, many of which were claimed by the local Daesh affiliate.

When gunmen stormed a Kabul hotel popular with Chinese business people last month, at least five Chinese nationals suffered injuries. Daesh made a claim for the assault.

Since the Taliban retook power, hundreds of people, including members of Afghanistan's minority communities, have been killed or injured in attacks.
