Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar Gets Threats, unknown Caller arrested

The BMC administration is enraged by the threatening call received by Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pedenkar. A First Information Report has been registered against an anonymous caller for intimidating to kill Mumbai Mayor and Shiv Sena leader Kishori Pednekar, a police official said on Wednesday. The Mumbai mayor had received the threat call on her mobile phone on December 21 last year, he said, adding that the caller was speaking in Hindi and also abused her.

According to reports, Pednekar recently filed a complaint at Azad Maidan police station in South Mumbai. A case has been registered under section 506- II (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, the officil said.

When asked about the possible context in which the threat call was made, the official said that further investigation is underway. The elections to Shiv Sena-ruled Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) are slated to be held next year.

Pednekar, who is a Shiv Sena corporator from a municipal ward in Mumbai, was elected as Mayor in November 2019.

Pednekar said, “As I received the call, the caller started to use abusive language. I was shocked, never expected that someone can use such language while talking to a woman. The caller didn’t mention any subject, just said that he was calling from Jamnagar and threatened to kill me. Others in the office requested me to take it seriously and report to the police.”
