AHMEDABAD, GUJARAT: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inspected Ahmedabad Railway Station to check on the redevelopment project. During his visit, he shared that 360 km of the Bullet Train route has already been completed. He also mentioned that work in Maharashtra is now moving faster after earlier delays.
The minister said that the project was held up for two and a half years due to permission issues under former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. "We lost time, but we are working hard to catch up," he said. Vaishnaw also gave an update on the undersea tunnel, revealing that nearly 2 km of it has been completed.
Meanwhile, Ravneet Singh Bittu, Union Minister of State for Railways, inspected the MAHSR - Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail project - for the first time. He praised the project, calling it an important step in India’s infrastructure growth. This is part of PM Modi's vision for a modern railway system. The project has already provided jobs for nearly one lakh people, Ravneet Singh Bittu said.
He added that while work in Gujarat is progressing well, Maharashtra is taking longer due to land acquisition issues. However, he praised the speed of construction, noting that a 40-meter bridge span is being built in just 16 hours.
The Bullet Train project, developed in collaboration with Japan, is expected to improve regional connectivity and boost economic growth in Gujarat and Maharashtra. The train will connect key business cities, including Mumbai, Surat, Vadodara, and Ahmedabad. The total budget for the project is Rs 1,08,000 crore.
