CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu police have detained a killr convict a decad after he jumped parole while being lodged in the Puzhal central prison, sources said on Wednesday. On Monday, a team lead by DSP of Police Priaydarshini arrested Venkitesan from the Gingee bus stop. In 2008, Venkitesan engaged in an adulterous relationship with the employer's wife while working there as a day wage labourer. The employer's daughter learned of this and threatened to tell her father. Venkitesan murdered her out of rage. He was given a death sentence by the Poonamale, Fast Tract Court, but the Madras High Court mitigated it after hearing his appeal, and he was then taken to Puzhal Central Prison in 2008. From May 18 until May 22, 2011, he was released on parole from the Puzhal Central Prison. Venkitesan successfully made his getaway during this time and was untraceable. Under the direction of DSP Priyadarshini, a special police squad was formed. They began searching for Venkitesan using his previous phone number and eventually located him in the Tamil Nadu town of Gingee. Since taking up the inquiry in April of this year, Priyadarshini said she has been tracking the convict's movements and has discovered that he spent some time in Bengaluru. The officer claimed that after being located in Ginjee, he was detained on Monday night at the Ginjee bus terminal. According to the police, he appeared before the Villupuram magistrate court before being taken to Puzhal Central Prison.
