Muslim League Union slams CPI-M over PFI relations

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) on Saturday slammed the insinuations against them made by the CPI-M.

The assertion made by CPI-M leader M.V. Jayarajan that the IUML, which is the second-largest ally in the opposition United Democratic Front (UDF), supports the Popular Front of India (PFI) was deemed "baseless" and "devoid of facts" by veteran IUML legislator P.K. Kunhalikutty.

"It is well known that the CPI-M joined with SDPI (the political side of PFI) to complete the IUML, and now they are holding us accountable. The SDPI's greatest political adversary is the IUML. The CPI-M was responsible for uniting those who are passionately opposed to us. Ponnani (Lok Sabha constituency) is where it occurred "Kunhalikutty claimed.

Around 19 PFI high commanders, including its chairman and several other national officials, were detained and later remanded to judicial custody in Kerala on Thursday during an early morning sweep across multiple states in the nation conducted by the NIA and the Enforcement Directorate.

As a result, the PFI Kerala section called for a dawn-to-dusk shutdown on Friday, which resulted in complete mayhem in the state as 70 KSRTC buses, many private vehicles, and properties were destroyed by the enraged PFI employees in protest of the detention of their leaders from this location.

The Kerala Police didn't respond until the Kerala HC suo-motu seriously intervened; by evening, 53 cases had been filed and close to 200 persons had been arrested. The Kerala government was asked to submit a thorough report on the violence that occurred during the shutdown on Saturday by the Centre.

Kunhalikutty continued by saying that the CPI-M has been working hard to defeat the IUML for multiple elections and that in order to do so, they collaborate with all relevant forces.

"The PFI received support from the CPI-M, and the motto was "Instead of RSS, IS is the necessity of the hour." You can see that the CPI-M controls local government in the state with the help of the SDPI if you look around. No one will ever forget that even during the IUML's political downturn, we never once looked to such elements for backing "Kunhalikutty said.

On Saturday, Kunhalikutty and IUML leader Pankkad Sadiq Ali Thangal are expected to travel to the Middle East to launch a campaign against extremist groups.
