Muslims protest in Hyd over Prophet row, chant 'Sir Tan Se Juda...'

Hyderabad: Tension has been rising in the old city of Hyderabad ever since Telangana BJP MLA Raja Singh made an alleged controversial statement about Prophet Muhammad. Raja Singh's release from the police has sparked outrage among the people of Hyderabad's old city. For two days, members of the Muslim community have been taking to the streets and raising provocative slogans of 'Sir Tan Se Juda' and effigies of Raja Singh are also being burnt while raising slogans against him.

In view of the tension in the old city, the Hyderabad police have closed all the bridges of the Musi river entering the old city. A heavy police force has been deployed on all bridges. Tension prevailed in several areas of the old city since Wednesday midnight. There was a continuous protest in the Shalibanda area since yesterday, even after the arrest of the police, people of the Muslim community again came out of their homes and started protesting. The protest by the people had turned violent in the middle of the night. Around 2 am on Thursday, some protesters shouted slogans of 'Sir Tan Se Juda' and threw stones at the police. Later, the police were forced to resort to lathi-charge to disperse the crowd.

The police ran the protesters and beat them with sticks, many people were also injured. Not only this, the police broke the doors of some people's houses and beat them up and took them to the police station. As soon as the news was received, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi sent his party corporator to the police station and himself talked to the top police officials and got the miscreants released.
