In a joint operation, The anti-narcotic squad of state excise and narcotics department and Assam Rifles troops seized 762 gms of heroin and arrested a Myanmarese drug peddler in Mizoram’s Hnahthial district. The drug peddler was arrested on the outskirts of Ngharchhip village in Hnahthial district. The 26-year-old accused has been identified as Boih Nun Chungm, a resident of Leisen village in Myanmar, the official said. The accused was booked under relevant sections of The Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, he said. The official further said that the contraband worth over Rs 22 lakh was smuggled from Myanmar. Meanwhile, state taxation minister Lalchamliana said that the state government is making massive efforts to curb the transportation of illegal goods like areca nuts from Myanmar. The minister said the state government has charged GST (tax) from the smuggled areca nuts.
