Budget 2021: Nashik's tire-driven metro will be model for country

Mumbai: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has presented the general budget on Monday. During this time he has made a provision of Rs 2,092 crore for Nashik Metro. Now former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis believes, 'This metro running on a different tire than other metro projects can become a model for other cities in the country.' During the tenure of Devendra Fadnavis, on August 28, 2019, the State Cabinet gave approval to the 'Metro Neo' project for Nashik. Now yesterday, due to the provision of financial provision for this metro in the general budget, the expectation of its completion has increased.

'Metro Neo' can become a model for not only Nashik but Maharashtra and another tier two and tier three cities of the country. This is because the construction cost of this tire based metro running on an elevated corridor is only one-third of that of the normal metro. At the same time, the rest of the facilities in these electricity-driven metros are made like normal metro. Recently, Brijesh Dixit, Managing Director of Maha Metro has said that 'in cities where the number of migrants traveling during the congestion period is between five and fifteen thousand, in such cities, The tire based metro can be very effective.'

That is because their construction cost is about 60 crores per kilometer whereas on the normal metro, the same cost reaches 250 to 400 crores. At the same time, traffic experts say, 'Such metro can become big support for the traffic system of newly developing cities at low cost. By the way, these metros will be run on two routes in Nashik. The first route will be from the Nashik Road railway station to Satpur Industrial Area. The second route will be from Satpur Industrial Area to Mumbai-Nashik Road.
