National Conference-Congress Alliance Crosses Halfway Mark in Jammu & Kashmir Polls

As the counting of votes continues in Jammu and Kashmir, early trends from the Election Commission indicate that the National Conference-Congress alliance has crossed the halfway mark, leading in 47 seats. This update, based on data available at 10:15 AM, shows that between three to five rounds of counting have been completed in most of the 90 constituencies.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in 28 seats as of the latest figures.

Several prominent leaders, including Tara Chand, Muzaffar Baig, Raman Bhalla, Basharat Bukha, Omar Abdullah, Ravinder Raina, and Yousuf Tarigami, await the final results, which will determine their political future.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed confidence in the alliance’s position, urging the BJP to maintain transparency in the process. "We are hopeful that we will win. By this afternoon, we will know the decision made by the voters. There should be transparency, and if the mandate is against BJP, they shouldn’t resort to any tricks. We formed this alliance to secure victory, and we remain optimistic," Abdullah said.

In Jammu, Congress candidate TS Tony, who is contesting from the Bahu Assembly seat, voiced optimism about the alliance’s chances, stating, "The Congress-NC alliance is set to form the government with a two-thirds majority. People no longer trust empty promises. BJP has turned the city of temples into a city of liquor for revenue. The public is fed up with the liquor and land mafias and no longer trusts them. Democracy is being undermined, and the appointment of MLAs should be done by an elected government, not through arbitrary power."

The National Conference and Congress, part of the INDIA alliance, contested the elections together, while the BJP and PDP ran independently. The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, held in three phases on September 18, September 25, and October 1, will decide the fate of 90 constituencies.
