National Games Update: Pranati Naik Dominates Gymnastics, Jhilli and Sneha Bag Bronze in Weightlifting

Goa, India: The sporting spotlight gleams brightly on Odisha as Pranati Naik shines, clinching the gold in Women's Artistic Gymnastics at the 37th National Games hosted in Goa. In an exciting day of competition, Jhilli Dalabehera and Sneha Soren joined the celebration by securing bronze medals in the challenging discipline of weightlifting.

Jhilli Dalabehera, exhibiting her strength in the 49 kg category, claimed the bronze medal with an impressive total weight of 167 kg. She executed a snatch of 73kg and a clean & jerk of 94kg to secure her spot on the podium. Similarly, Sneha Soren, competing in the 55kg category, showcased her exceptional abilities by earning a bronze medal. Her total weight of 186 kg was achieved through a snatch of 80kg and a clean and jerk of 106 kg.

Ashok Kumar, the seasoned leader of Odisha's Gymnastics contingent, extended his heartfelt congratulations to Pranati for her remarkable gold medal win. He commended her exceptional performance, especially considering her battle with illness in the days leading up to the competition. Kumar expressed his immense pride in Pranati's achievement and shared his confidence in her ability to replicate this success in the four additional gymnastics events she's set to participate in.

The sporting action continues to unfold, with more weightlifting competitions on the horizon. Coach Ravi Kumar expressed optimism about the prospects of Kanhu Charna Sahu and Suresh Yadav, who could contribute to Odisha's growing medal tally. Despite a lingering back injury, Kanhu Charan Sahu is set to compete in the 81 kg category, while Suresh Yadav will showcase his talents in the 96 kg category.

The 37th edition of the National Games was formally inaugurated on Thursday, October 26 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda. The honorable Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, graced the event with his presence, marking the official commencement of this prestigious competition.
