Three names reached to PM Modi, name to be announced before Army Chief Bipin Rawat's retirement

The Indian government is going to announce the new army chief soon. Actually, the current army chief Bipin Rawat is going to retire on 31 December. The list of three names for the new army chief has been sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Which is yet to be stamped.

According to media reports, the new army chief will be announced two weeks before the retirement of Bipin Rawat. The three officers being considered for the post of COAS are Deputy Chief, Lt Gen Manoj Mukund Narwane, Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Ranbir Singh and Southern Army Commander Lt Gen Satinder Kumar Saini.

Lieutenant General Narwane, who headed the Eastern Command and Army Training Command (ARTRAC) before becoming the Deputy Chief in September, is senior to both the candidates and is preferred for the post. Along with this, he has vast experience in counter-terrorism operations in both Kashmir and North East. He has also commanded a battalion of Rashtriya Rifles, which is an anti-terrorism army of the army in Jammu and Kashmir. He was also part of the Narayan Indian Peacekeeping Force when it was deployed in Sri Lanka during the civil war.
