National Wrestling Championship: Gurpreet-Sunil won Gold, Railways won Greco Roman title

Recently, Asian Championship silver medalists Gurpreet Singh and Sunil Kumar performed to their laurels and won gold medals in the Greco Roman category of the Tata Motors Senior National Wrestling Championships which ended here on Sunday. Punjab's Gurpreet secured the first position by defeating two-time medalist Sajan Banwal 3–1 in the Junior World Championship in the final of 77 kg. Sunil also won easy in 87 kg and defeated Punjab's Prabal 5-1.

According to information received from the sources, Arjun, playing for the army, defeated Ajay 9-0 in 55 kg and won the gold medal. Harpreet Singh of Punjab defeated Rajbir of Railways 4-1. The first Greco Roman wrestler Hardeep Singh to qualify for the Olympics got a walkover against Ravi Rathi of Railways in the 97kg final. The Railway team topped the list with 250 points, while Sena secured the second position with 170 points and Jharkhand with 109 points.

At the same time, sources say that in the meantime India's women's and men's team were selected for the South Asian Games (SAIF). The women's team will be led by Olympic bronze medalist Sakshi Malik and the men's team under-23 World Championship silver medalist Ravinder. Seven wrestlers have been included in each team. In the women's team, apart from Sakshi (62 kg), Sheetal (50 kg), Pinky (53 kg), Sarita (57 kg), Anshu (59 kg), Anita Sheoran (68 kg) and Gursharan Kaur (76 kg). The men's team consists of Ravinder (61 kg), Pawan Kumar (86 kg), Satyavrat Kadayan (97 kg), Rahul (57 kg), Amit (65 kg) and Sumit (125 kg).
