Nature’s Call: President Murmu Stresses Conservation at Puri Beach

NEW DELHI: President Droupadi Murmu, on a four-day visit to Odisha for the Jagannath Ratha Yatra, shared her thoughts on environmental conservation through social media posts on platform X. Amid her busy schedule, she visited Puri's Golden Beach and reflected on the importance of reconnecting with nature.

"There are places that bring us closer to the essence of life and remind us we are part of nature," President Murmu posted. She described her walk along the seashore, emphasizing the calming effect of the wind, waves, and expansive water. "It was a meditative experience," she added.

The President noted how this connection with nature brought her a profound inner peace, similar to her experience during her darshan of Mahaprabhu Shri Jagannathji. "It brought me profound inner peace, just like when I had darshan of Mahaprabhu Shri Jagannathji. We all can feel this way when we encounter something larger than us that sustains us and gives our lives meaning," she wrote.

President Murmu highlighted the growing disconnection between humans and nature due to modern life's demands, leading to severe environmental issues. "In the hustle and bustle of daily life, we lose our connection with Mother Nature. Humankind believes it has mastered nature and exploits it for short-term benefits. The consequences are visible. This summer, many parts of India faced terrible heatwaves. Extreme weather events are becoming more frequent globally. The situation is expected to worsen in the coming decades," she warned.

She also discussed the impact of global warming on oceans and coastal areas. "More than seventy percent of Earth's surface is covered by oceans, and global warming is causing sea levels to rise, threatening coastal areas. Oceans and their diverse flora and fauna are suffering heavily due to various types of pollution," President Murmu noted.

The President concluded with a call for both large-scale and local efforts to protect the environment, citing the example of coastal communities who live in harmony with nature. "People living close to nature have traditions that can guide us. Coastal inhabitants understand the language of the winds and waves. Following our ancestors, they worship the sea as God," she stated.
