Naxalites go on rampage in Kanker, torch 3 vehicles, 4 mobile towers

Kanker-Chhattisgarh: A group of Naxalites torched up to five vehicles and four mobile towers in the Atangarh assembly boundaries of Chhattisgarh's Kanker district, an official said.

According to Kanker Superintendent of Police (SP) Shalabh Sinha, who has confirmed the news of the incident, the Naxals also obstructed the Antagarh-Narayanpur state highway by cutting down five trees in the vicinity of the Tadoki police station.

The Naxals may have committed eight instances in Antahgarh town last night, said SP Shalabh Sinha. They also set fire to other Jio towers in the Jiram Terai, Sirsangi, and Badrangi areas in addition to the Koyalibeda area's PV-45 Jio mobile tower. By removing trees, they blocked the road from Koylibeda to Marda village and the state highway connecting Antagarh and Narayanpur.

SP Sinha said, the Naxals also set fire to a private bus that was just one mile from the Koylibeda police station as well as a JCB, Hyva, grader, and tractor in Markanar.

Also, Naxals distributed leaflets in the vicinity of the Durgukondal police station calling for the success of the shutdown of the North Bastar Division (Kanker, Narayanpur, and Kodagaon). On the poster, it is written, "Make the shutdown of the North Bastar Division successful in order to protest the November 22 fake encounter that resulted in the death of Comrade Darshan Jagesh. We'll exact retribution on the teammates who died during the fictitious encounter."

The Bastar Inspector General of Police (IG) P Sundarraj, however, stated "In response to DVCM Darshan Padda's passing during the confrontation last month, Naxals have called for a bandh (shutdown) in the North Bastar Division region. They have created soft targets out of desperation, like as public utility buildings like mobile towers etc "The obstruction on the highway and road has since been cleared. The officer noted that additional inquiry is being conducted into the situation.
