NDA nominee Ram Nath Kovind leading in First Round Counting

The NDA’s nominee, Ramnath Kovind, is leading over Congress-backed Meira Kumar on Thursday as the counting of votes polled in the presidential election reach the end of first round.

As per the latest trends, NDA’s nominee Ram Nath Kovind is leading with 60,683 votes. The Opposition’s pick, Meira Kumar, is at 22,941 votes. These numbers are from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Bihar.

Meira Kumar secured no vote from Andhra against Kovind's 27,189 value of votes. In Arunachal, Kovind secured 448 and Meira Kumar 24. NDA candidate bagged 10,556 from Assam against Meira Kumar's 4,060. In Bihar, Kovind got 22,490 and Meira Kumar 18,867.

Counting is going on under the supervision of Lok Sabha secretary general Anoop Mishra, who is also the Returning Officer. Ruling NDA’s Ram Nath Kovind looks set to win against Opposition’s nominee Meira Kumar but the counting will reveal the scale of victory.

"I am not upset with initial trends," says Meira Kumar as the opposition nominee is currently trailing NDA's Ram Nath Kovind by more than 37,000 votes.

The winning candidate replaces Pranab Mukherjee, who will demit the office on July 25.
