Birthday: Neil Armstrong was the first astronaut reaches moon

Neil Alden Armstrong was an astronaut in America and the first person to step on the moon. In addition, he was also an aerospace engineer, naval officer, test pilot, and professor. He was a part of the Navy before becoming astronaut. While in the Navy, he also participated in the Korea War. He completed his studies from Purdu College of the Navy and joined a Dryden Flight Research Center and took over 100 flights as a test pilot. After serving here, he obtained a Masters' degree from the University of South California.

Armstrong is primarily known as the astronaut of the Apollo expedition as the first person to step on the moon. Prior to this, he has also completed space travel between Gemini missions. Apollo 11 was the expedition in which in July 1969, the first landing on the moon with a human being and Armstrong was its commander. Apart from him, it included Buzz Aldrin, who became the second person to land on the moon, and Michael Collins, who was sitting in the main vehicle circling the moon's orbit.

Along with his teammates, Armstrong was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom at the hands of President Nixon for this achievement. President Jimmy Carter awarded him the Congressional Space Medal of Honor in 1978, and Armstrong and his comrades were awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 2001. Armstrong died in Cincinnati, Ohio, on August 25, 2012, at the age of 82, during bypass surgery.
