Nepal Hit by Third Earthquake in Four Days, Tremors Felt in Delhi-NCR

New Delhi: Nepal, still reeling from the tragic earthquake that struck on November 3, was hit by another powerful earthquake on Monday evening. This recent quake registered a magnitude of 5.6 on the Richter scale, marking the third significant seismic event in the country within the span of just four days. The tremors extended beyond Nepal's borders, reaching parts of northern India, including the Delhi-NCR region.

The earthquake that took place on the previous Friday primarily affected the Jajarkot and Rukum West districts in western Nepal. It resulted in substantial damage to approximately 8,000 houses, both public and private. This disaster claimed the lives of at least 157 people, with 89 women among the casualties, and left around 190 individuals injured. The earthquake was measured at 6.4 on the Richter scale and occurred shortly before midnight on Friday.

The epicenter of this recent seismic activity was situated at Ramidanda in Jajarkot district, located approximately 550 kilometers from Kathmandu. However, the tremors were not confined to Nepal alone; they reverberated as far as New Delhi and other parts of northern India.

Among the impacted areas, the districts of Jajarkot and Rukum West were hit the hardest by the quake. Jajarkot reported a tragic toll of at least 105 fatalities, along with an equal number of individuals injured, while Rukum West documented 52 deaths and 85 injuries. This earthquake that struck Nepal on Friday, occurring at 11:47 PM local time, marked the deadliest earthquake in the country since 2015. In that year, two significant earthquakes, measuring 7.8 and 7.3 on the Richter scale, resulted in the tragic loss of around 8,000 lives.

The recurrence of these earthquakes has left Nepal's residents in a state of heightened concern and vulnerability, as they continue to grapple with the aftermath of these natural disasters. The government and various relief agencies are actively engaged in providing assistance and support to those affected by these calamities, working to address the immediate needs of the impacted communities.
