KATHMANDU: Nepal Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba arrived in India on Friday with a team of four ministers, business leaders, journalists, and senior government officials for a three-day official visit. This is Deuba's first trip outside of the country since taking office in July of last year. Arzu Rana Deuba, the Prime Minister's wife, is also accompanying him.
He will begin his tour by meeting with India's External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, and then proceed to the BJP headquarters, where he will meet with the party's National President, J.P. Nadda, and others. He would meet and interact with Nepali diaspora living in India at a function at the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi later that evening.
On Saturday, Deuba will meet with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi at the Hyderabad House and undertake delegation-level talks, which will be a major highlight of the visit. Modi and Deuba will officially inaugurate the Kurtha-Jayanagar railway line during the meeting, and other key issues are expected to be discussed by the two leaders, according to officials.
India has invested Rs 10 billion on the construction of the railway track.Since February 13, almost a year and a half after arriving in Nepal from India in September 2020, the two trains have begun undertaking dry runs.
