The sacred city of Janakpur in Nepal is preparing for the vibrant Vivah Panchami festival, a cherished annual celebration marking the divine marriage of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita. This event is rooted in ancient traditions and brings together devotees from all over.
Unique Tilakotsav Ceremony to Precede the Event This year, for the first time, a special Tilakotsav ceremony will take place before the Vivah Panchami. Tilakotsav symbolizes the formal welcome of Lord Ram into Goddess Sita's family, adding a profound dimension to the event’s spiritual significance. The Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust shared on social media that the Vivah Samaroh will take place on the auspicious day of Vivah Panchami at Janakpur Dham, with this new ceremony enriching the festivities.
Offerings from Janakpur to Ayodhya In a gesture of respect, items for the tilak ceremony are being sent from Sita’s royal palace in Janakpur. A team of 251 tilak-hars, representatives from Janakpur (representing the family of Goddess Sita), will carry these offerings to Ayodhya. The offerings include 501 varieties of items such as traditional clothing, jewelry, sweets, fruits, and other gifts, symbolizing blessings and goodwill.
Schedule of the Tilakotsav Ceremony The Tilakotsav is set for November 18, with the tilak-hars departing from Janakpur on November 16 and arriving in Ayodhya on November 17. This pilgrimage signifies the unity and bond between the two sacred cities, Janakpur and Ayodhya, and reflects the divine journey that celebrates the union of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita.
The Legend of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita’s Marriage According to Hindu mythology, Lord Ram, the son of King Dasharath of Ayodhya, wed Goddess Sita, the daughter of King Janak of Janakpur, during the Treta Yuga. This divine union took place in Janakpur, which has since become a pilgrimage site, attracting countless devotees who revere the sacred grounds.
Festive Deepotsav in Janakpur Enhances the Celebrations In addition to the Vivah Panchami, Janakpur recently held its first-ever Deepotsav celebration following the consecration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Streets were beautifully illuminated, and locals engaged in lively shopping and preparation for the upcoming festivities, creating an atmosphere of joy and devotion in honor of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita.
