New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released the list of 292 players for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 auction. This time the inclusion of the son of some former Indian cricketers in the list has caused a ruckus. The BCCI is facing allegations that it is promoting nepotism. In the auction list, 21-year-old son of master blaster Sachin Tendulkar, Arjun Tendulkar, 31-year-old son of Syed Kirmani, Sadiq Kirmani and 42-year-old son of Dilip Doshi, Nayan Doshi have got place. Nayan has played for 9 years and Sadiq has not played any T20 match for the last two and a half years. As a result, many talented cricketers from India are missing from the list. This includes Bihar's Ashutosh Aman, the highest wicket-taker in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Meghalaya captain Puneet Bisht with the second-highest strike rate in the tournament. Dilip Doshi's son Nayan is primarily a left-arm spinner. He is the oldest player in the auction. He took 166 wickets in 70 matches in first-class cricket, 64 wickets in 74 List-A matches and 68 wickets in 52 T20 matches. Sadiq Kirmani, son of Syed Kirmani, is also a wicketkeeper-batsman. However, he has played only two List-A matches for Karnataka in domestic cricket. In this, he had scored 25 runs in total. Sadiq played his last List-A match in 2015. He also played his last match in T20 in the Karnataka Premier League in 2018. There are many players in this list who played T20 matches many years ago. The criteria of shortlisting the players of IPL Governing Council are also being raised.
