Netflix CEO will donate 120 million dollars for black college scholarships

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings and his wife Patty Quillin will donate $ 120 million to historical colleges and universities for black people. The couple will give $ 40 million each to three institutions, the United Negro College Fund, Spelman College and Morehouse College. Organizations said this is the largest amount awarded in support of scholarships at HBCUs. Hastings has been consistently supportive of educational initiatives including charter schools.

He also started a $ 100 million education fund for black and Latin students in 2016. Hasting said that now the time has come to find ways to end racial discrimination. Apple has recently given 100 million dollars, or about Rs 761 crore, to the fight against racism. Google has also announced to give 275 million dollars i.e. about 2,092 crore rupees to fight racism.

A few days ago Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian resigned from the board of the social network firm. With his resignation, Alexis demanded the appointment of a black man to his post. Honoring Alexis Ohanian's resignation, the company's CEO Steve Huffman said the company would honour his request. He also said that the company is working on further strengthening its content policy to deal with racist speeches.
