USA: The Toyota Prius was released nearly 25 years ago and quickly became synonymous with "hybrid"—and often with bad aesthetics. Toyota has introduced the fifth edition of the automobile, and it is stunning. The new Prius design incorporates elements from previous models, such as the signature long and raked windscreen, rounded wagon-like hatchback styling, and of course, hybrid powertrains. Since the second generation of the Prius model, these have been distinctive features. Most notably, the new generation Prius abandons the "center gauge cluster" interior of the previous model in favor of a more conventional "on the wheel" model. This allows for a large, integrated screen, as seen in recent Prius models, particularly the Prius Prime. The 2.0-litre and 1.8-litre four-cylinder engines that form the core of the new drivetrain are slightly more efficient than before. The series parallel hybrid system is Toyota's first hybrid-electric offering. The 2.0L version has 1.6 times the power of the previous model, with 144 193 PS (144 kW) and the E-Four system for all-wheel drive traction. However, the increased output does not mean a reduction in fuel economy, with the Prius HEV expected to maintain 57 mpg (4 L/100 km) combined. Similarly, a 1.8L version of the HEV will be available with slightly lower power output and possibly higher efficiency. Toyota hasn't released those figures yet. The new Prius' 2.0-liter engine will also power a plug-in hybrid model, an improvement over the PHEV "prime" model from the past. Accordingly, more power will be produced while maintaining the efficiency of the current Prime model (133 MPGe or 1.8 l/100 km). Also Read: Royal Enfield: Super Meteor 650 is the most expensive motorcycle in its segment This new Prius plug-in model will have 50% more all-electric driving range, an external plug option to keep the car comfortable while charging, and more cargo space as the battery is now located under the seats instead of in the back. Estimated output is 223 PS (164 kW). Under the bodywork, the new Prius models carry most of the changes. A new generation of the TNGA platform has been created, and the new battery placement has increased stiffness and lowered the center of gravity. The new platform design also features larger tire diameters and less interior noise.
