The non- Northeast air passengers, travelling inside Assam, will have to undergo tests for Covid19 at Guwahati Airport from next week. The Assam government will stop mandatory Covid19 tests for the incoming air passengers at Sarusajai Stadium. This announcement was made by Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday through a Tweet in micro-blogging site. The health minister also announced that there is no need of mandatory COVID-19 test for air passengers travelling within Assam and Northeast. “From next week- 1. #COVID19 test for incoming flight passengers will be done in Guwahati Airport itself instead of Xarusajai.2. Air passengers travelling within Assam and those travelling between North East States will no longer require mandatory #COVID19 testing,” health minister Sarma tweeted. Assam’s Covid19 tally increased to 2,10,865 on Wednesday and the death toll reached 969. The day reports were 169 new positive cases and 3 fatalities. Health minister Sarma in a tweet on the state’s Covid19 tally said 23,484 tests have been conducted. The state currently has 3,285 active Covid19 patients. On Wednesday,3 more positive patients succumbed to Covid19 infection.
