New Virus Strain Found in India as 6 UK Returnees Test Positive for Variant

New Delhi: Six cases of UK mutant strain of coronavirus has been detected in the country. Health Ministry said that all the 6 UK returnees who found positive with new Covid strain have been kept in single room isolation Three of the patients are in NIMHANS, Bengaluru, two in CCMB, Hyderabad and one in NIV, Pune. The people came in contact with the infected have also been put under quarantine. Comprehensive contact tracing has been initiated for co-travellers, family contacts and others.
 
According to the health ministry, samples of 3 UK returnees have been tested & found positive for new UK strain in NIMHANS, Bengaluru, two in Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad & one in National Institute of Virology, Pune. All the patients have been kept in single room isolation in designated healthcare facilities by the state governments.
 
Meanwhile, the overall number of global coronavirus cases has topped 81.2 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 1.77 million, according to the Johns Hopkins University.The University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload and death toll stood at 81,249,028 and 1,772,912, respectively.
