Nitish Kumar to take oath as Bihar CM for eight time in 22-yrs

NEW DELHI: After moving out of the National Democratic alliance, a day later on Wednesday, August 10,  Nitish Kumar is all set to take oath as Bihar's chief minister again, the eighth time since he was first sworn-in as the Chief Minister of the state in 2000.

Despite not having a majority, he took his first oath as Chief Minister on March 3, 2000, and held the position for seven days. Nitish resigned on March 10, 2000, even before the vote of confidence could be held in the Assembly since neither the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) nor the National Democratic Alliance could pass the halfway point in the Assembly.

After his party won 88 seats and its ally, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which won 55 seats, Nitish Kumar took the oath of office to become the chief minister of Bihar for the second time in 2005. Due to the creation of Jharkhand, the House's 243 members were reduced, and the government easily passed the majority threshold of 122 members. He successfully finished the five years of his mandate.

Nitish Kumar was sworn in as the CM once more in 2010, but when the BJP lost the election in 2013, he left the party and selected Jitan Ram Manjhi to take over. In 2015, he was reinstated as the CM and said that his resignation was a mistake. He paired up with the RJD in 2015 and won the election, but in 2017 they split, and he continued to work with the BJP till the 2020 Assembly election. He took his sixth oath of office as CM.

And he will now take the oath for the ninth time on Wednesday in the afternoon.
