New Delhi: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has openly admitted that there is no alternative to the Congress other than the Gandhis. Statement of Tharoor comes after the entry of Priynaka Gnadhi Vadra in the politics. Tharoor further described the General election as a battle for India's soul.
Responding to a query at the Jaipur Literature Festival, Tharoor even asserted the importance of the Gandhi family in the working of the Indian National Congress. The elections are a battle for India's soul because we have seen a fundamentally different idea of India being advocated by those close to the ruling party.

Taking jibes at PM Narendra Modi, Tharoor said the PM has failed to fulfil his promises and the "liberal pronouncements" that he often makes. He said, "There is a central contradiction to Modi. He makes all these liberal pronouncements, but for his own political support and electoral viability across the country, he rests on the most illiberal elements of society.”
