Nuclear talks to begin in Doha on Tuesday, says Iran

TEHRAN:  The Iranian government has announced that its negotiating delegation will depart to Doha, Qatar, on Tuesday to hold discussions to resurrect Tehran's 2015 nuclear agreement.

According to Nasser Kanani, a spokesman for the foreign ministry, late Monday night, Ali Bagheri Kani, Iran's deputy foreign minister, will continue to serve as the team's leader. The European Union will support the next negotiations, the Ministry stated earlier on Monday. The negotiations would be done indirectly with the US.

Also present in Doha will be Robert Malley, the US special representative for Iran.

On June 25, Iran and the European Union declared that negotiations to resurrect the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, a 2015 nuclear agreement, will resume soon.

The Vienna nuclear talks, which had been scheduled to start in April 2021, have been on hold since March due to political disputes between Tehran and Washington.

Iran demands a verifiable easing of the sanctions and demands assurances that successive US administrations won't back out of the agreement. Iran agreed to a nuclear agreement with major powers, including the US, in 2015.
