Delhi Police in action after Jama Masjid protest, accused to be arrested

New Delhi: Police have arrested two accused in the protest case outside Delhi's Jama Masjid. In fact, there was a protest here on Friday demanding the arrest of suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma over his statement on Prophet Mohammad. A large number of people had gathered in this demonstration here and no permission was taken for the demonstration. Due to this, the Delhi Police had registered a case. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Shweta Chauhan said that two persons have been arrested late in the night.

Apart from this, section 153A has been added to the case, although earlier a case was registered under section 188. Regarding this whole case, the police said that some of the people who performed after the Jumei prayers have been identified and the name of any political party or organization has not been revealed in the case in the investigation so far. However, CCTV footage is being scanned. The other accused will be arrested soon.

The Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid said that he did not know anything about this protest. Nor was there any protest called from the mosque. "Some people started shouting slogans at Jama Masjid Chowk i.e. gate number one. Who these people are, the police will find out. The police will know who these people are, who have raised these slogans. Nobody knew, I don't think even the police knew that there was going to be a demonstration.''
