The Kusal Mendis-led Sri Lankan side, initially off to a strong start at 125-0, soon lost wickets in quick succession, managing a modest total of 209 runs in 43.3 overs. Amongst the Sri Lankan openers, Pathum Nissanka contributed 61 runs, while Kusal Perera added 78.

Marsh, in a press briefing, expressed his satisfaction, stating, "It was an excellent day for us. We entered the game under some pressure due to a slow start, but our experienced players rose to the occasion. We are on the right track. I wouldn't say we were soul-searching, but the pain of our loss to South Africa was palpable. Hopefully, this victory is a significant step in the right direction, a tribute to my father's remarkable strike rate."
