BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik on Monday, September 26, unveiled five edited volumes of the Encyclopaedia of Tribes in Odisha, which was co-published by the State Tribal Museum and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Research and Training Institute (SCSTRTI). The only state to date to publish an encyclopedia of every tribe is Odisha. A total of 3800 pages and 418 research papers are included in the five edited volumes, which cover all 62 Scheduled Tribe communities and 13 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) in Odisha. The Chief Minister expressed his happiness at such an uncommon and spectacular publication, saying that this book will undoubtedly be a tremendous treasure and repository for all academicians, scholars, policymakers, and anyone curious to learn about the tribal groups of the state. He also praised the institute's efforts. Over the previous six decades, the 418 articles in the Encyclopaedia have been published in Adivasi journal and other media. A.B. Ota, director of SCSTRTI, and S.C. Mohanty, one of his consultants, worked tirelessly and admirably for the past four years to edit, compile, and publish this enormous work. Patnaik explored the museum's many exhibits and was impressed by the PVTG Museum's recently installed projection mapping device. It is noteworthy that the Tribal Museum is regarded as one of the best interactive ethnographic museums in the world and has a very unique type of collection of magnificent arts and crafts from tribal groups. The Chief Minister opened the first tribal museum in 2001 and the second, which is solely dedicated to the PVTGs, in 2009. In 2018, Patnaik himself granted the museum recognition as an Odisha State Tribal Museum.
