Sambalpur: Bhagwat Prasad Nanda, the famous Sarvodaya leader and social worker, died at his home. He was 82 years old. His family gave this information on Friday. Nanda was ill for a long time. He died on Thursday. He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter. CM office Odisha tweeted on Friday, "Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has mourned the death of Sarvodaya leader Bhagwat Prasad Nanda". The CM said that "His association with Bhoodan movement shows his concerns towards the poor and landless farmers". CM Patnaik expressed condolences to the bereaved family and wished for the peace of the departed soul. Congress President of Odisha Niranjan Patnaik has also mourned the death of Nanda. Nanda was born on 14 December 1937 in Bolangir. He was the President of Odisha Sarvodaya Parishad. He was associated with the Bhoodan Padayatra under the leadership of Acharya Harihar Das in 1959 and later after completing his college education, he joined the Sarvodaya movement. He became a Gandhi Tattva pracharak under the Gandhi Memorial Fund in 1962 while studying law in Cuttack. He also joined Vinoba Bhave in 1963 during his Odisha Padyatra. Subsequently, Nanda joined the Congress and was also the secretary of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee's Labor Cell.
