BHUBANESWAR: Odisha officials announced on Wednesday that another person has tested positive for Omicron, bringing the total number of cases in the state to nine. A 31-year-old man tested positive for the Omicron variant of the coronavirus after returning from Dubai. The affected man's health is stable, and he is being treated at a hospital, according to Bijay Mohapatra, State Director of Health Services. On December 16, he arrived in Odisha through Kolkata after a trip to Dubai. He had tested Covid negative at the time, according to Mohapatra. He had a fever after one day and tested positive for RT-PCR. As a result, his sample was sent for genome sequencing, where he was discovered to be Omicron positive, Mohapatra said. He assumed that the person had been infected with the virus while travelling. "The person's parents, who were in close contact with him, tested negative. We will, however, test them again during the incubation period. If they test positive for Covid, we will sequence their samples' genomes "the director went on to say. In Odisha, nine Omicron cases have been identified thus far. All of them are foreign returnees, and one of them has tested negative already. Meanwhile, 221 new Covid-19 cases have been recorded in Odisha, bringing the total number of cases to 10,54,381. The State's active caseload now stands at 1,593.
