Odisha: Sex Determination Racket Busted,13 Arrested

Berhampur:  Berhampur Police uncovered an illegal sex determination Racket on Friday and detained 13 people, including the main suspect and an ASHA employee.

"Thirteen persons have been detained for operating an interstate ultrasound racket to discover the gender of pregnant women's foetuses. They would arrange for an abortion if a foetus was found to be female. This centre has been run by the main culprit for several years "Saravana Vivek M, Berhampur Superintendent Of Police, said.

Durga Prasad Nayak (41), Akshaya Dalai (24), Hari Mohana Dalai (42) Rina Pradhan (40) (Ashakarmi in CHC, Kholikote) and Rabindranath Satpathy (39) of Sri Durga Pathology are among the accused.

Kali Charan Bisoyi (38) of Bhabanagar Chhak's Nirnay Diagnostic and Research Centre, Susant Kumar Nanda (40) of Sai Krupa Seva Sadan Nursing Home, Padma Charan Bhuyan (60) of Jagannath Clinic, Sibaram Pradhan (37) of Josoda Nursing Home, Sumanta Kumar Pradhan (30) of Mrutyunjaya Hospital, Dhabaleswar Nayak (51), Mailapuri Sujata (49) of Smart Hospital and Subash Ch Raut (48) of Ralaba.

One LOGIQ-e Ultrasound machine with probes and connector, one laminated LOGIQ Book XP ultrasound machine, ultrasonography transmission gel, Rs. 18,200 cash, and a cellphone were seized by the police.
