Sambalpur: In Sambalpur city of Odisha state, a man who killed his wife after attacking her with a sword was sentenced to life imprisonment due to a consultation session of a family court. On Tuesday, District and Sessions Judge Biramchi Narayan Mohanty of Sambalpur sentenced Ramesh Kumbhar to life imprisonment in the murder case. Police said that Kumbhar had attacked his wife Sanjita Chaudhary, her mother and another family member with a sword on 23 April 2018 for counseling in the family court premises.

Meanwhile, the family members caught Ramesh and handed him over to the police. The injured persons were rushed to Sambalpur District Hospital. However, Sanjita died due to treatment. Public Prosecutor Deepti Ranjan Sendh said that the culprit was convicted under sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 323 (intentionally causing hurt) and 449 (Section 27 (i) of the Additional Weapons Act) of the Indian Penal Code. .

Simultaneously, the prosecutor said that under Section 302 of the IPC, the offender was given life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000. Failure to pay penalty will result in two years of imprisonment. Punishment was also given under other sections and all the punishments would run concurrently.
