Tokyo Olympic Hockey: Indian men's team' first match against New Zealand, women's team against the Netherlands

The Indian men's hockey team will begin their campaign against New Zealand at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics on July 25, while the women's team will face the Netherlands in the first match on the same day. The FIH released the program on Tuesday according to which both teams of India will start their campaign on the first day of the tournament.

The eight-time champion men's team will next take on Australia in the world rankings after New Zealand on 26 July. After this, the Indian team included in Group A will face Spain (28 July), defending champions Argentina (30 July) and hosts Japan (31 July). The Indian women's team included in Group A will play against Germany on 27 July, Great Britain on 29 July, Ireland on 31 July and South Africa on 1 August.

According to the FIH statement, the women's gold medal match will be played on August 6 while the men's match will be played on August 7. The Indian men's team, ranked fifth in the world rankings, won the Olympic ticket by defeating Russia 11–3 in the qualifiers played in Bhubaneswar. The Indian women's team is ranked ninth in the rankings, having won the Tokyo Olympics by defeating the US 6-5 in the qualifiers.
