Om Birla Inaguates 9th Commonwealth Parliamentary Meeting in Udaipur

UDAIPUR: The ninth edition of the India Region Conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) was inaugurated in the city of Udaipur, Rajasthan, by Lok Sabha Speaker, Om Birla, on Monday. The event was heralded by an official communication from the office of the Lok Sabha Speaker, affirming Birla's initiation of the conference. Before the commencement of the conference, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla chaired an Executive Committee meeting of the CPA, as detailed in the statement.

This gathering saw the participation of distinguished figures, including Rajasthan's Chief Minister, Ashok Gehlot, Rajya Sabha's Deputy Chairman, Harivansh, Speaker of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, CP Joshi, along with Members of Parliament and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Rajasthan Vidhan Sabha. Also in attendance were Ian Liddell-Grainger, the Chairperson of CPA headquarters, and other esteemed individuals. The inaugural event was graced by the presence of Satish Mahana, Speaker of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Rahul Narvekar, Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, Biswajit Daimiry, Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly, Ritu Khanduri, Speaker of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly, and Uday Pratap Singh, a Member of Lok Sabha.

The central theme of the two-day conference revolves around "Enhancing Democracy and Effective Governance in the Digital Era." Over the course of the conference, prominent figures like Chairpersons, Speakers, Deputy Chairpersons, and Deputy Speakers from State Legislatures will engage in thoughtful discussions on significant subjects.

Among these topics, one focuses on amplifying the efficiency and efficacy of public representatives in fostering good governance through digital empowerment. The other topic delves into the role of public representatives in fortifying the nation through democratic institutions.

The conference's culmination is scheduled for Tuesday (August 22), marked by the valedictory address by the Vice-President of India and Chairman of Rajya Sabha, Jagdeep Dhankhar. The valedictory session will be graced by the presence of Rajasthan Governor, Kalraj Mishra, and other notable dignitaries.
