New Delhi: Amid the tense situation in Afghanistan, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday said that India's army will not allow the political crisis in any other country to affect our country. The Lok Sabha Speaker said he is visiting the area to strengthen the Panchayati Raj system and democratic institutions. Asked about the recent political crisis in Afghanistan, Birla said India favors a democratic system flourishing in all countries. Birla further said, "We have full faith in our armed forces that they will not allow India to be affected by the ongoing political turmoil in any other country (Afghanistan).''

On the recent tensions over the LAC, the Lok Sabha Speaker said, "India is capable of protecting its borders and people and the country is against expansionism and cross-border terrorism." He further said that the expansionist approach of some countries creates tension on the border. Birla is scheduled to visit remote areas of the Ladakh region including Pangang Lake and Nubra Valley. He will also visit Pahalgaon and Srinagar to hold discussions with panchayat leaders of all these places.
