Threat of third-wave hovers over India

New Delhi: The risk of a new omicron variant of corona infection is slowly increasing. The first case of Omicron came up in the country on 2nd December and now there are 23 cases. This means an increase of more than 10 times in 5 days. In just 5 days, Omicron from South Africa has attacked 5 regions. 10 patients have been received in Maharashtra, 9 in Rajasthan, 2 in Karnataka, 1 each in Delhi and Gujarat.

Two cases of omicron were first reported in Karnataka in the same country. Then, it reached Gujarat, Maharashtra, Delhi and Rajasthan. Nine cases have been registered in Jaipur, Rajasthan. All of them belong to the same family. 4 members of the family had returned from South Africa and from that omicron spread to the remaining 5 persons. But the trouble is that the family attended a wedding ceremony in Jaipur on November 28. The administration is now trying to collect the information of the rest of the persons by tracing the contact to prevent it from spreading.

Apart from the Rajasthan, Omicron has launched a major attack on Maharashtra. So far, 10 persons have been found infected with this variant. All the people had returned from South Africa. The first case of omicron in Maharashtra came on December 4. There is 1 case found in Dombili, 2 in Pimpri Chinchwad, 1 in Pune and 2 in Mumbai. State Health Minister Rajesh Tope said that omicron was found among the two persons who returned to Mumbai from Johannesburg on Monday. They had also undergone both doses of the vaccine.

What are the symptoms in patients? One thing common among the patients of omicrons found so far is that no one has noticed serious symptoms such as breathing problems or lack of oxygen or serious body infections. A person who returned from Zimbabwe in Jamnagar in Gujarat has also been found infected with omicron. The administration is on alert after confirmation of the variant in a person who returned from Tanzania in Delhi as well. Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain said that information is being collected about the person who returned from Tanzania.
