Omicron: Kerala imposes night curfew from December 30

Thiruvananthapuram: Following the Central government's decision to allow states to decide how to implement night curfews in the wake of the Omicron variant threat, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced the imposition of a night curfew from December 30 to January 2.

Even though the state's Omicron tally stands at 57, the immediate trigger for this was to keep the upcoming New Year's celebrations under control. As a result, on all of these days, everyone should be indoors by 10 p.m. and until 5 a.m., and all forms of unnecessary travel will be strictly prohibited.

On all four days, all shops and enterprises, including clubs, pubs, hotels, and restaurants, must close their doors by 10 p.m. Following a high-level meeting where the decisions were made, Vijayan stated in a statement that the limitations will also apply to beaches. He said that 98 percent of those over the age of 18 have received the first dose of the Covid vaccine, and 77 percent have received both doses.

"Beginning January 3, children in the age group 15 to 17 will be administered the Covid vaccine, as well as health workers and those over 60 years old with co-morbidities," said Vijayan, who added that the state's health system is well prepared to handle any eventuality, including a third wave.
