Srinagar: In Jammu and Kashmir, the SMS service has been stopped after one day. However, post paid services are on but SMS has been banned. Mobile services shut down in the Valley from August 5 were resumed on Monday 14 October. In this postpaid mobile service was restored. However, prepaid services and internet are still closed in the state. Ban for tourists in the valley has been removed. People's movement has started again in Jammu and Kashmir. Significantly, on 5 August, the status of the special state of Jammu and Kashmir was abolished and it was divided into two union territories. The communication services were completely stopped there after the removal of the provision of Section 370. The shutdown of the communication services was part of a precautionary step taken by the government, which included detention of leaders, deployment of additional security forces and evacuation of tourists from the Valley. All these steps were taken to stop the conflicts there. Jammu and Kashmir has about 7 million mobile subscribers. Most of them are postpaid users. Their number is around 40 lakhs. But three lakh prepaid users of the state are still waiting for the service to start. The administration has not given information about when the internet and mobile services will be restored.
