Acting on a tip-off, the security forces had launched a cordon and search operation during the night in Panzgam village, during which the hiding terrorist opened fire at the forces.  "One militant has been killed and his body has been recovered along with a weapon," a police official at the encounter site was quoted by IANS as saying.

According to the reports, the slain terrorist was a Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) operative and a local resident of the area. The encounter has come when the forces are on high alert following multiple warnings from the Intel agencies of a possibility of a terror attack on security establishments, camps, and buildings using Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

TN has learned that the latest warning was received on Friday against a possible attack on Indian Air Force bases in Srinagar and Awantipora area that falls in Pulwama - where today's encounter took place.  According to the warnings, terrorists are planning to carry out a similar attack as the dastardly Pulwama attack in which 40 Jawans lost their lives. The Intel reports have been coming in following the Balakot air strikes carried out by the IAF targetting Jaish-e-Mohammed training camps in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK).
