LOS ANGELES: The all-star cast for Tyler Perry's new Netflix movie "Six Triple Eight," which stars Kerry Washington and Oprah Winfrey, is impressive. As per reports "Variety," Washington will also serve as executive producer of the movie, which depicts the inspirational true story of the only all-Black, all-female World War II unit. A strong supporting cast that stars alongside Washington and Winfrey also includes Gregg Sulkin, Ebony Obsidian, Milauna Jackson, Shanice Shantay, Sarah Jeffery, Pepi Sonuga, Jay Reeves, Jeante Godlock, Moriah Brown, Baadja-Lyne Odums, and Susan Sarandon. In addition to directing and producing the movie, Tyler Perry also created the screenplay, which was based on an essay by Kevin M. Hymel on the 6888th Postal Directory Battalion, which included 855 Black women. The piece was published in WWII History Magazine by Sovereign Media. These women were assigned the monumental task of going through and delivering the three-year backlog of undeliverable mail when they joined the war effort. Their narrative has been kept out of history books and out of the public eye for close to 75 years. But on March 14, 2022, President Joe Biden approved the legislation granting the women the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest honour bestowed by Congress. The official synopsis of the movie reads, "Facing discrimination, an unfamiliar region, and a war-torn country, they persisted and sorted over 17 million pieces of mail, linking American soldiers with their families and loved ones back home." "They came up with their own motto: "No Mail, Low Morale," which served as their daily motivation. Not only were the women of the 6888 distributing mail, they were also delivering hope."
