Over 100 Former GOP Figures Say Kamala Harris is a Better Bet Than Trump

Washington: Donald Trump is facing growing dissent among mainstream Republicans, as 111 former GOP national security officials have announced their support for Kamala Harris. In a letter released on Wednesday, these officials expressed their belief that, despite potential disagreements on various issues, Harris is better suited to serve as President compared to Trump.

The letter criticized Trump for his susceptibility to flattery from leaders like Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping, his unusual closeness with authoritarian figures, and his disregard for ethical and lawful behavior. The officials described his national security decision-making as chaotic and dangerous, declaring him unfit to hold public office.

Among the signatories are former Ambassadors Richard Blackwill, Richard Boucher, and Winston Lord, as well as former cabinet members William Cohen and Chuck Hagel. Intelligence leaders John Negroponte and William Webster, along with several former lawmakers and senior officials, also endorsed the letter.

The officials condemned Trump's previous presidency, accusing him of fostering government chaos, praising adversaries, undermining allies, politicizing the military, and prioritizing personal interests over American values and democracy. They emphasized Harris's dedication to principles like freedom, democracy, and the rule of law, arguing that these ideals outweigh any concerns Republicans might have about her.

Despite various controversies surrounding Trump, including unfounded claims by his supporters about Democratic plots and immigrants, mainstream Republican support for Harris is increasing. Polls show Harris gaining traction in key states such as Iowa and Florida.
