Owaisi met school principal arrested for staging drama against CAA

On Saturday, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi met Shaheen School Principal Farida Begum and mother of a Class 6 student, Najmun Nisa, arrested for staging school drama in protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 (CAA). The two are closed in Bidar jail in Karnataka. Owaisi condemned the allegations and lent his support to the women.

After meeting the two on the matter, Owaisi tweeted, "Both have been arrested by the Bidar police on charges of treason for staging a play. Farida Begum is ill and is being given glucose. While Najmun is a widow and she and her child live alone. The care of her child depends on the landlord. We offered our support and encouragement during this difficult time."

Owaisi also met Bidar's Superintendent of Police, Sridhar. He tweeted and said, 'I met SP Bidar. We raised strong objection to the arrest and sedition charge for staging the drama in the school. He said that its investigation is going on and treason can be removed. I said that due to being a local resident these women should have done this before arresting them." The student's mother Najmun Nisa was arrested on January 21 after a drama against the CAA and NRC. Both were later sent to judicial custody.
