Islamabad: Pakistan hailed the Friday normalisation of ties between Saudi Arabia and Iran as a "important diplomatic breakthrough" and praised China for its assistance in bringing about the agreement. In a deal mediated by the Chinese government, the two Middle Eastern nations decided to mend fences and reopen diplomatic missions. A trilateral statement announcing the development mentioned the reopening of embassies within two months as well as the resumption of bilateral cooperation in other areas. "We hope that this constructive action will establish a model for peace and cooperation in the region." Recall that the kingdom decided to sever diplomatic ties with Iran in 2016 after demonstrators attacked Saudi diplomatic missions there.
