Pakistan elections: Imran Khan, Hafiz Saeed's son in terror hit-list

The National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) of Pakistan has reported that some top politicians of the nation, including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf superemo Imran Khan, can be attacked by militants during the campaign for Pakistan general elections.

It is noted that Pakistan general polls is scheduled for July 25.

The authority stated about the threat to the leaders to a Senate panel. Among those who are facing the threat include PTI chief Imran Khan, Awami National Party president Afsandyar Wali, Qaumi Watan Party’s Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal leader Akram Durrani and ANP leader Ameer Haider Hoti,  as Pakistani media reported.

In addition Lashkar-e-Taiba founder Hafiz Saeed’s son, Talha Saeed, is also expected to be targeted by terrorists. He is contesting the elections on Allah-o-Akbar Tehreek party ticket. The agency further said that some senior leaders of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) were also in the hit list of the militants.

NACTA has notified that the Interior Ministry, provincial home departments, and other agencies about the looming threat to the top lawmakers of Pakistan, said a report in The Nation.

According to Pakistan-based Dawn News reports the panel chief, Rehman Malik, had asked the Interior Ministry to make sure fool-proof security to all those facing the threat. He also asked for providing security to the leaders of all main political parties.
